After you kill yourself, do they care? Will time cover the guilt they feel, if they have any? Will they ever truly pay for what they caused? I'm talking about bullies and suicide victims. Everyone has experienced bullying, but at what level. For some people it's simply something they can shake off, but for others it could mean ending their life. People are pushed so close to the edge of the cliff. They would rather jump off than move away from the edge, only to be pushed back again. I'm sure everyone has given up on something, but for how many people was that thing life itself? No one needs to feel that giving up on life is their best option if not their only option. Of course there are already consequences, but they are not enough. How many people have heard the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words don't hurt me?” Many people have done this, but how much of it is true? Bullying is an ongoing problem. Without adequate punishment, nothing will change. Things could only get worse. Legal measures should be taken to ensure a person's safety and comfort. Most people don't understand the seriousness of bullying. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in people between the ages of ten and twenty-four. Approximately four thousand four hundred lives are lost to bullying every year. Cyberbullying has become a major problem as technology advances and more and more teenagers use social media. Approximately forty-two percent of teens with access to the Internet admit to having been a victim of cyberbullying in the past year. About half of them have had suicidal thoughts and 1 in 10 have attempted it. When teens are victims of cyberbullying, in most states there isn't much you can do about it. Eighty-six p... half the paper... just some people who need help. In any case they must be punished. Bullying needs to stop. Obviously you can't stop bullying completely, but you can definitely lower the numbers. We need to make schools safer. School is for learning, not for being tortured. American schools as a whole contain approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million victims of bullying. It is estimated that one hundred and sixty thousand children skip school every day for fear of attacks or intimidation by other students. Furthermore, “fifteen percent of school absenteeism is directly related to the fear of being bullied at school.” (MBNBD) Bullying can also lead to dropping out of high school.
