IntroductionAccording to Quinn (2000, p. 200), "Assessment is the exercise of judgment about the quality of student work, as a way of supporting student learning and evaluate the results." Contemporary nurse education should focus both on what the student nurse or student nurse midwife should do and how it should be done (Palomba & Banta 2001, p. 71). This article will therefore critically analyze the following five issues. First, whether the evaluation was conducted fairly and accurately? Secondly, it will try to answer the question: whether the evaluation decision is justified? Third, will we also consider whether the feedback provided to the student was timely and constructive? Fourth, we will address the issue of clarity and ambiguity of the document and, finally, we will discuss whether professional responsibility has been taken into account. The evaluation process must be fair to the student nurse or student midwife and transparent to everyone. (West, Clark, and Jasper 2008, p. 159). This scenario describes less fairness towards the student. For example, Jackie thinks Gina is useless. This statement is quite discouraging for the student nurse or student midwife and also sounds very negative and completely unfair. According to RCN (2007, p. 11), the mentor must be constructive and avoid negative comments. Jackie did not communicate her feelings to Gina so that she could have the opportunity to ameliorate her concerns. Perhaps, with a little motivation Gina might have seemed more helpful. Motivation is the internal force that drives a person to act in a certain way (Cherry & Jacob 2005, p. 372). For an assessment to be considered fair, the signed mentor must be objective... middle of paper ......rning.Nicklin, P.J., & Kenworthy, N., 2000.
