Teenage suicide should never be on the minds of our youth. It is a terrible circumstance that happens almost daily. I chose this topic for my main assessment because I can identify with this topic. My cousin committed suicide when he was 19. The pain and suffering that we as a family have gone through cannot even be described. Some say that people who commit suicide are selfish cowards who do not think of their families when they act. Others say the individual is not of sound mind to understand what is happening. I usually tend to lean towards the last hypothesis because I personally believe that my cousin never committed suicide, unlike his state of mind. Teen suicide is a leading cause of death among adolescents, in addition to traffic and drug-related accidents. My future career in law enforcement will involve teen suicides. It's inevitable. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of police officers, families and schools to identify the risk and prevent these suicidal behaviors by these adolescents. Yet, how are people supposed to know what teenagers feel deep down? Most teenagers can hide or express their feelings like professionals. Personally, the best way to know what your kids are thinking or going through is to talk to them daily; whether at the table or even while watching television. These measures will change your child's life because he/she will know that someone cares and loves him/her. I always tend to wonder what actually drives someone so young to pull the final trigger. Is life really so difficult that it would lead a teenager to end his own? According to the textbook, teen suicide appears between ages 10 and 14 and increases among older teens... middle of paper... the damage has skyrocketed and must be addressed immediately. Furthermore, as I explained at the beginning of the baseline assessment, the important variables and culprits of suicide and self-harm include psychological, family and social problems in society. In my personal opinion, the media needs to contain what they report regarding teen suicide. With all the solutions and treatment plans I have mentioned in this evaluation, there is minimal evidence of effectiveness. The major challenges I foresee for the future for this ongoing problem include understanding and understanding adolescent suicide as well as the factors that contribute to it. Identifying preventive measures aimed at young adolescents considered at high risk and effective therapeutic options are still difficult challenges; very achievable with a collective effort from everyone.
