What realizations does Dr. Borg make in Wild Strawberries as he drives from his home to Lund to receive his award? What do you learn from your dreams? Marianne, his daughter-in-law, who has never liked him, accompanies him. Along the way they chatted about various topics, such as why she had never liked him and the misunderstanding between her and her son Evald. She never liked him because of his nature as he was a lonely man (Blair 26). His loneliness had also affected his son's outlook on life. Evald had never liked children and had asked Marianne to get rid of them; this was influenced by his parents' marriage. Their marriage was tense because it was characterized by disagreements and arguments. Mr. Borg realized that he had played an important role in influencing his son's outlook on life. Along the way they were joined by hitchhikers Sara, Anders and Viktor. Sara reminded him of Sara, his cousin, with whom he had fallen in love when they were young but whom he had married to his brother Sigfrid, who was irresponsible. Sara reflects this in the fact that she can't decide who between Anders and Viktor (Blair 67). However, the two are different and see life differently, but she prefers Viktor due to his nature and he aspires to become a doctor, so his salary is higher than that of the minister. Another couple, Alman and Berit, joins them. This couple continues to argue eventually Berit slaps Alman. However, Alman is an abusive husband and openly criticizes his wife while other people are present. Their marriage reflects Doctor Borg's marriage to Karin as it too was unhappy. He remembers his childhood spent by the sea and his childhood sweetheart, Sara. His daydreams and nightmares help him realize how lonely and detached his life has been (Blair 156). At the gas... middle of paper... Oney Wayne offers it to him despite it being stolen from a steel mill in Illinois. He kidnaps both Michael and Suzanne and intends to kill them both as Michael had impersonated him and Suzanne who he had been paid to assassinate (Dahl and Rick 78). He can't understand why Michael had done this. Michael needed the money and was a good person because he didn't want to kill her. Michael is human while Lyle is inhuman like when at the cemetery during the fight between them, Michael unfortunately throws Lyle and is hit by the statue, he is afraid of having killed him although Lyle intended to kill him. Suzanne shot Lyle so they could get rid of him and Wayne too. Work Cited Blair, Emma. Wild Strawberries. London: Little, Brown, 2000. Print.Dahl, John and Rick Dahl. West Red Rock.
