Statistics Canada has conducted research to identify facts that contribute to the definition of a youth gang member. In collaboration with the Montreal Police Service, Statistics Canada was able to generate the definition of a gang member: "An organized group of adolescents and/or young adults who rely on intimidation and gang violence and commit criminal acts to gain power and recognition and/or control certain areas of illegal activity [2] (Statistics Canada, 2008) Gangs have existed for many years; the founders of some of the original gangs in the United States will be presented followed by an in-depth discussion on why young adults can be persuaded to join a gang. Women often do not contribute to the fact that youth gangs in society are dominant; adults from Surrey, British Columbia, talk about youth gangs and the influence of their present at the within their community in a documentary titled Warrior Boyz. Origin of the Gangs The Bloods and the Crips are the two famous gang families that began in the 1940s in Los Angeles as an approach to defend blacks against whites (Dorais, Corriveau, 2009 , p 8). Gangs are most often visible in specific areas such as restaurants, bars, subway stations, etc.: “The appearance of street gangs in Quebec and Canada dates back to the 1980s, when these groups began to become larger, more visible and more destructive to the community. authorities and residents (Dorais, Corriveau, 2009, p 8-9). There are six definable characteristics that can be used to identify gang members: “a structured degree of organization, a means of identification card……(2006).
