Module Assignments 11. Explain how film, radio, and television helped transform America from a community-based culture to a shared, homogeneous culture. Television changed the way we consumed our free time: people started staying at home more willingly than going to the cinema or other places. Television has exposed us to many different cultures on a larger scale than ever before. Without a doubt, the influence of television would cause a marked social change in America, as people began to relate to and emulate the values, concepts, and trends of many different television programs such as sitcoms featuring “African-American, Hispanic, and other cultural families ”. Television has also played a significant role in the evolution of America's national identity. Television provided the opportunity to feature unique and diverse stories and allowed Americans to share diverse cultural experiences. Television has also provided a direct conduit for the values, humor, and style of American and other cultures to impact society. Over the decades, radio has proven remarkably adaptable to our evolving way of life. Radio played a very important role in “Blue and jazz combined with country music to form Rock n Roll”. On commercial radio, he often played American Rock n' Roll music, with the determination to conquer the new youth market. Once Rock n roll entered society, its style, boldness and lifestyle would soon follow. The evolution of radios has also provided marginalized groups the ability to access the airwaves. As for movies, they have a huge influence on culture. As stated in the instructor's notes, that "Jewish culture was spread across America by a jazz singer for the reason that it was the first talking picture... middle of paper... an exchange of views on an assortment of topics from a wide range of people from all over the world, thus leading to a global exchange of information and knowledge. Television has given each of us a podium to express our ideas on all kinds of social issues and policies and sharing information with each other. It has brought out stress-free ways of communicating and has provided us with simply accessible means to reach people in numerous parts of the world. Thanks to technological development we have managed to gain a podium that allows us to introduce ourselves to the rest of the world. We often talk about the negative influences of television resulting from overexposure to it. It is true to some extent that television has influenced society in a negative way. But, without a doubt, television turned out to be fun.
