Health-Related Community ServicesVery few, if any, communities and schools offer free or inexpensive health screenings to students within a school setting. The intervention program will offer free screening to students as part of annual and pre-participation athletic physical exams in order to identify the onset of anorexia in its earliest stages and terminate any further development in the first week of the third month. Health screenings will be confidential and non-invasive, including measurements of weight, height and body mass index (BMI) and questions about eating patterns and body image. Because the screening exams will be non-invasive, well-trained volunteers will be able to conduct the screenings and thoroughly examine weight and height, paying particular attention to possible indicators of disordered eating habits. This strategy falls under the perceived threat construct of the health belief model, which refers to the belief in both the susceptibility and severity of a negative health behavior. Providing students with this health-related community service strategy will enable the target population to view anorexia as risky and life-threatening, which in turn will initiate a stimulus to take action toward behavior change. Community Mobilization Strategies Community mobilization refers to the empowerment process of building social relationships in which community members plan, implement, and evaluate program activities in pursuit of mutual community interests. The “NO Body is Perfect, but EVERY Body is Beautiful” coalition team will offer an interactive information luncheon for parents and their children about the program's intervention, anorexia awareness and ways to get involved within the community. Lunch... in the center of the sheet... the “Miss Inner Beauty” competition. This show isn't simply an enchanting night of formal dresses and big curly hair; it is a celebration of inner beauty in adolescence. The program designed this competition to help build self-confidence and positive body image in girls and women. Students interested in participating in the competition will submit the participation forms and candidates will be selected randomly. The “Miss Inner Beauty” competition will be held on May 15, 2014. This social activity will implement the self-efficacy construct in the HBM. The purpose of the competition is to encourage and inspire young women to treasure their inner qualities in a world that is known to only cultivate outward appearance, while providing tools to teach various skills to empower young women to find beauty interior and be successful in every aspect. of life.
