Humans have been fighting for power ever since they learned to make and use weapons. Most weapons are built only to kill people, but one has the potential to destroy the word and its atmosphere. this weapon is called an atomic bomb. The atomic bomb is a newer weapon produced during World War II. The first was tested in the Manhattan Project led by Robert Oppenheimer and involved nearly 600 people. The first two nuclear weapons made by these people were called Big Boy and Fat Man. The big boy and the fat man were dropped on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima and these were the only nuclear weapons actually used. Many other types of nuclear weapons were made primarily to protect against war. An atomic bomb, known as a hydrogen bomb, was so powerful that it destroyed the entire island known as Elugelab. Since then, nuclear weapons have become increasingly stronger. The most powerful atomic bomb, however, is the 50 to 58 megaton TNT bomb detonated on October 30, 1961.
