Another thing about the Majdanek camp was that they had large warehouses to store the Jews' clothes and all their personal effects. Research says that the SS was said to deport 74,000-90,000 Jews to the main Majdanek camp alone. Not even with the Majdanek subfields. The SS had killed hundreds of thousands of Jews in Majdanek during the camp's operation. The most common way people died there was in horrific living conditions and by dying in the camp's gas chambers. Majdanek was also a transit camp for a temporary stopover for the Soviets and Poles. In July 1944 Majdanek was liberated and the prisoners freed. The exact date of the camp's liberation was July 24, 1944. Before that, the SS had evacuated most of the prisoners in the western camp that spring. However, the Germans were unable to completely destroy the camp. Majdanek was also the first large concentration camp to be liberated during the Holocaust. The Soviets had invited some journalists to check out the camp and get evidence of the bad things happening
