“AC is almost like high school. Go to some classes for an hour or two and study. Nothing is really different,” Sarah explained during a conversation among her friends. Sarah, as many suggest, notes that Angelina Community College lacks uniqueness and an inviting atmosphere. While community colleges are generally defined as merely building blocks or prerequisites to bigger and better things, Angelina College would benefit from a dedicated and well-invested student activity center. A dedicated student center could ignite the “Campus Life” that generates motivation within an individual's work ethic and Roadrunner esprit de corps, while promoting the college's name. Angelina College's current student center illustrates a lack of commitment to student satisfaction. The center merges with surrounding buildings near the origin of the campus. One of the few discrepancies is the sign, “Student Center,” which, in context, could be misleading due to the lack of actual and consistent student affiliation. Inside, the student center houses a tiny cafeteria, a cramped campus store, and a series of faculty offices. Although enclosed inside inhibits some fundamental elements of a student center, its shortcomings cannot be hidden. No section invites students to relax or collect thoughts. The only nearby, but unorthodox, constellation is faculty waiting areas, cafeteria tables, or stairwell stairs. Recreational activities appear to be non-existent and only accessible for the sports represented in the respective training facilities spread across campus. Finally, faculty offices represent a skewed percentage of the building. As a result, everyday students examine limited choices regarding their a...... middle of paper ......issal because they have no justification to stay longer. A dedicated student center grants students another option to participate in a form of extracurricular activity among their peers or cooperate in study groups which can effectively enhance absorbed learning; an option that once didn't exist. Angelina College desires student activity center innovation. Building a new student center shows people like Sarah that this community college is not inferior to other colleges and is full of resources for student voice. A dedicated student activity center promotes a lifestyle, a stress-reducing environment, a deeper scholastic value, and a sense of pride that every person should understand when attending a college.
