According to Karl Marx's theory of alienation, alienation is defined as "the separation of things which naturally belong together, or the antagonism between things which are properly in harmony" . Alienation could also be defined as the alienation of a person from his society. Alienation occurs when people feel different or abnormal compared to other members of their class, group, organization, or society. The different types of alienation are: self-imposed alienation, alienation imposed by society, racial, social, political, economic alienation, forced alienation, alienation by physical characteristics, alienation within the family, isolation, paranoid alienation. People become alienated every time they leave their homes or environment and move to a very different place because they have to adapt to change which may slow them down depending on how they are able to interact with their new environment. The most common people who are alienated are internationals or foreigners. Most of them experience culture shock and find that they have had to adapt to the people and place they are in. In colleges, international students experience more alienation than American students. Studies have shown that due to the difficulty of adapting to campus life. In general, people believe that one can hardly be alienated in one's own environment, which is why my argument is generally considered false. The types of alienation that will be discussed are immigration and racial alienation, as they are involved in the literary text below: learning......middle of paper......1967), pp. 397-405.
