Topic > How the Internet Affects Children - 922

Children of all ages, everywhere, seem to depend only on the Internet these days. The Internet is an amazing creation, but people take advantage of it. Since there is the Internet, there is access to all kinds of social media, games and all sorts of other things. However, due to today's society, the Internet is one of the few things that children use and move on, whether it is going on Facebook for hours or watching ridiculous videos on YouTube, the Internet is taking a negative turn towards children, the their brain, intelligence and attitude. . Despite helpful or early learning programs, the Internet does not make children smarter. The recent explosion in the growth of social media, smartphones, tablets and any other internet-enabled device is indeed impacting young people at school and at home. According to statistics collected by CNN (Chelsea Clinton and James P. Steyer, Internet harms children, cnn.com) at the age of 5 more than 50% of children use computers and/or tablets. Starting to use the internet at such a young age slows down your child's learning ability, they should be practicing sounding out words and learning to write letters, but because of the internet this makes it much more difficult than it should be. My mother, Gina Steiman, who is a certified adult health nurse practitioner, a certified adult health clinical nurse specialist, and a certified advanced practice public health nurse, who works as a school nurse and at a health center of university-based urgent care, noted that:The ability to reason and research from a variety of sources, as well as reliability in analyzing sources is no longer a skill of this generation. Instead, the Internet and other mainstream media have become a tool... paper...... a lot on the part of their children and the child feels that he cannot meet the expectations of his parents, so he has a negative look on school, studies academics and remains without motivation to do well. The Internet is full of many things that could make us smarter. However, the Internet is full of websites, games, and even photos that could very likely have a negative effect on children and their behaviors. Their education and ability to speak may also be affected and they may begin to do poorly in school or start swearing at a young age. Another thing is that their attitude towards life changes, instead of seeing it as their giant happy playground, they may see it as a very bitter and cold place and start looking, feeling and speaking negatively.
