Many times people express their feelings through words that others can understand, but in the poem "Lost Soul" by Brianna Alvarez, she expresses her way of feeling and thinking through poetic and literary devices. There is a use of imagery and theme to imply heartbreak, suffrage and desperation. The poem expresses how the speaker wants to be left alone in the face of something or someone who has hurt him or is hurting him. The poem is about a pain the speaker is going through that he no longer wants to feel or something he wants to let go of. but ask yourself if they really should. In the second line (Alvarez 2), “soul-destroying battle,” we can infer that something big must have happened with the use of the word battle to deeply hurt the person that affected their person. The poem can also be linked to a broken heart that has gone through so much difficulty and can't seem to let go; that whatever hurts is still with them, no matter how hard they try to get rid of it. The title, Lost Soul, may mean that the speaker has nowhere to escape from this pain, so he is lost in the way...
