Topic > Shark culling should be abolished in Western Australia

Every year hundreds of sharks are killed just because people fear them. Western Australia introduced Shark Culls after a series of deadly attacks. Most of the people attacked are usually surfers, swimmers or shark haters. Now imagine this, what if you were a shark swimming and suddenly someone tries to hunt you, how would you feel? We wouldn't like it very much if sharks did the same thing to us. In the following paragraphs, I would like to give you three reasons why shark culling should be abolished not only in Western Australia but around the world. So why do we need sharks? Well, sharks help keep the ocean healthy and clean for over 450 million years. They also help remove half of the world's greenhouse gases and produce more oxygen than all of the rainforest combined! Sharks are as important as all the trees in the world because they have one thing in common: providing us with oxygen. Without the help of sharks we would not be able to eliminate as much greenhouse gases as we would like, meaning global warming would have a lower rate of faster onset. Above all they provide us with food. As? They usually eat old, diseased, or slower fish in the ocean's population down to the right size so that prey species don't cause damage to the ecosystem by becoming overpopulated. They are also at the top of the food web. If all sharks became extinct, the entire food web would collapse causing the disappearance of many other fish species. So instead of killing sharks, we could lure them elsewhere. As they have a huge impact on the environment. We all know that there are much bigger threats in the world today. Should we worry about the guilt of people who enter shark territories? Or... half the card... doesn't have to exist. If there weren't many sharks left, almost everything would be affected. From the food web to the climate which would then link to climate change. People should focus on the BIG problems and worry less about the smaller problems that wouldn't affect everyone. If swimmers and surfers wanted to take the risk and risk their lives in shark homes, then the decision would be theirs, we shouldn't worry about it. Each of us has a brain, which is used to think and create new ideas. If everyone spoke out, the world would listen to our ideas for solving the problem. It doesn't matter how stupid your ideas may seem or if you're not a celebrity. Everyone has a voice! If everyone tried to stop the killing of sharks, one day the law will be abolished. We can set an example for other countries to follow! Let's show them what we can do!
