America has always been known as “The Land of the Free”. Americans have far more freedoms than any other country in the world. The freedom to believe in whatever religion they choose (freedom of religion), to say what they want (freedom of speech), to protect themselves (the right to keep and bear arms), and the rights of women put America leaps and bounds ahead of to many other countries. .Freedom of religion in America has always been one of the things that made it seem to stand out from the rest of civilization. Our First Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” (US Const.) The beginning that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” (US Const.) prohibits the federal government from establishing a national religion or from engaging in any religion for the benefit of one compared to the other. This was created by Thomas Jefferson with the purpose of creating a wall of separation between Church and State. However, “prohibiting free exercise” (US Constitution) is a bit of a gray area, if someone were to belong to a religion where cannibalism is practiced, their beliefs would be protected, but the practice would not. ““Religious freedom” means the right to believe or not, the right to enter and exit religious communities, and the right of individuals and communities to act publicly, within due limits” (Farr). In American there is the freedom to believe in any religion one can think of. From Christianity to Confucianism to vampirism, people can believe whatever they want and the government can't say anything about it. In other countries this is......middle of paper......site.
