IntroductionTheodore Robert Cowell, better known as Ted Bundy, is one of the most famous serial killers of the 20th century. Bundy took advantage of his good looks and charming personality to attract countless women. His regime began in Seattle, Washington in 1974, until his arrest in 1978. The estimated number of murders was 30-100 victims. However, the final number is unknown to this day. Childhood Ted Bundy was born at the Elizabeth Lung Home for Unwed Mothers in Vermont to a woman named Eleanor Louise Cowell. His father has never been identified; Eleanor's family suspected that her abusive father was Bundy's biological father. Bundy was raised by his grandparents and did not know that the woman he knew as his sister was actually his biological mother. Throughout his childhood, Bundy believed that his grandfather was a wonderful man and appreciated and respected him. However, the grandfather was known to be physically and emotionally abusive towards family members and pets. In high school, Bundy was shy and socially awkward. In his adolescence he began to peer into women's windows; he stated that during his adolescence he fantasized about sexual assault. As he developed and reached adulthood, his conduct became more antisocial, but no one would have predicted the extent of his dysfunctional personality. The Murders It is not known when or where Ted Bundy began his killing spree. However, his first documented murder dates back to 1974; he was 27 years old. At midnight on January 4, 1974, Bundy broke into the bedroom of 18-year-old Joni Lenz, a dancer and student at the University of Washington. He sexually assaulted her and caused her extensive internal injuries. Lenz remained unconscious for ten days. She survived the attack, ... middle of paper ... in the United States for a period of five years. Unfortunately, many of the victims' graves are unknown. If forensic science had been more advanced in the 1970s, perhaps the police or FBI could have stopped him before he caused further chaos. Works Cited Preston, G. A. (1980). Ted Bundy (book review).
