Every day is a fashion show and the world is your catwalk”~ Coco ChanelWorld War II changed fashion enormously by rationing clothes, this meant that after the end of World War II, and the fashion of the war had remained in some of the most popular trends in the 1950s. Fashion was a relief from worries and a way to express oneself. So designers like Christian Dior wanted to create a new look for women to celebrate the end of the war. The effects of the war had pushed women to desire glamor and beauty, changing the way people wore clothes on a daily basis and turning the 1950s into the golden age of couture. World War II was the greatest war in history! And it definitely influenced fashion in a huge way. During World War II there were some laws like L-85 that rationed clothes. This had created the consumer society which had exploded the fashion industry. The consumer society became bigger when manufacturers found a way for the middle class to be able to afford good clothes. History L-85 went into effect in 1941. The government had given each person a clothing book with discount coupons. Each item of clothing was assigned a value in vouchers. To buy clothes they gave the booklet to the shopkeeper and the shopkeepers were the only ones authorized to cut out the coupons. They would then pay for their clothes. One of the rules was that they could only use one type of colored coupon until the government announced the next color. But they could only use 60 coupons throughout the year. And for children to grow up, the government will give each child ten extra vouchers.
