2.4 Definition of demonstration technique Miller and Stoeckel (2010:298) define that demonstration technique is the performance of a practical activity for the purpose of teaching ability. The demonstration can be done in person or via video. Useful for cognitive and psychomotor learning. Furthermore, Barry and King (1990:120) state that the main purpose of the demonstration technique is to promote the acquisition of new skills/content/behaviors through observation and imitation. They add that the demonstration technique is commonly used in all skill areas, including reading comprehension. It can be applied to areas and levels of all subjects with some adjustments. Kahler et al (1985:139) state that demonstration is the most appropriate technique for teaching manipulative or operational techniques, for developing understanding, for showing how to perform new practices. In terms of reading the text of the procedure, it is an appropriate technique because, as stated above, the demonstration technique can develop understanding through the stages of doing something.2.5 The advantages and disadvantages of the demonstration technique There are numerous media and methods that can be used for teaching, but none of them is the perfect one. The media and techniques used certainly give positive and negative impacts. In this section, the advantages and disadvantages of applying the demonstration method in language teaching will be explained. 2.5.1 The advantages of the demonstrative technique Here are the advantages of the demonstrative technique as noted by some linguistic experts:1. The use of demonstration technique can make the process and procedure taught clearer because when the teacher conducts the demonstration the students can directly see the teacher's activity. As a result, students can learn best when t...... middle of paper... it is necessary for the teacher to practice the demonstrated procedure several times to be successful in the classroom.2. The teacher must ensure that all necessary equipment is available and in working order. If the teacher loses any of the equipment or materials, it will affect the demonstration process.3. Make sure all audiences or students can see the demonstration. The purpose of the demonstration is to develop student understanding so that students can see the demonstration clearly. From the above guidelines, it can be concluded that the teacher should consider some aspects to make the demonstration effective. The most essential thing is that students must see and hear the process clearly to ensure that they follow the explanation well. After the demonstration process it is hoped that students can increase their understanding of the text reading procedure.
