Pirates have been pillaging, pillaging and destroying ships for a while now and nothing major has been done to try to stop it. By hijacking these ships they torture their prisoners by beating them and even in some extreme cases kill them. Many people consider pirates to be an extremist group that is terrorist and should be considered an extreme threat. The Marauders are human rights abusers and must be controlled and stopped before these beatings and murders continue just for ransom. Somali pirates detain people against their will and therefore violate the human rights of victims and prisoners. Piracy in Somalia began because the Somali government allowed foreign fishermen to enter and fish in their waters. Once the Somali civil war broke out, the government disbanded and with it the Somali navy also disbanded. The foreign fisherman has since started fishing illegally in the waters surrounding Somalia. The companies that sent the fisherman out have decided to start dumping waste into the waters, thus killing the fishing activity of the inhabitants of Somalia. These local fishermen have decided to band together to try to defend their resources from these big companies. Once this was done, they began hijacking the ships and holding the people aboard the ships hostage. They would then demand a ransom from the companies to get their crew back. Most of the pirates' early targets were commercial lobster fishing vessels. The reasoning behind this was that they were small and easy to take over, this was necessary for the pir...... middle of paper ......d for the strong political system is that pirates currently use bribes and physical means threats to tip the balance of power among politicians and gain long-term access to the coasts (Ending Piracy np). Furthermore, pirates use up to 86% of their money in political operations: “The international community has mainly focused on offshore measures to combat piracy. These offshore measures have helped reduce the number of hijackings, but ending piracy would require these costly measures to be expanded and made permanent” (Ending Piracy). Around the world, Somali piracy has become more of a problem every year. The human rights violations committed by pirates are blatant and harsh. Somali pirates detain people against their will and therefore violate the human rights of their victims and captives. Pirates must be stopped before these attacks on humans continue and get worse.
