INTRODUCTIONWhat is culture? Culture is the human being who sets the rule to survive, live and share with the people around you. Culture is nature and culture. Nature is about what we are born into and learn to live better. For example, we need air to breathe to survive and also for plants to grow in the direction of sunlight. Everything is due to nature. Culture is a connection with nature. Education is more about us teaching and learning from what we don't have. Example, formal and informal education. Informal education starts when you are born, your parents will teach you what you should do and what you didn't do, also the messages are deeply felt. Formal education happens when you go to school. The teacher will teach knowledge. Beyond that, culture also involves the transmission of patterns of symbols, rules, premises, and meaning. For example, in Malay culture we have songkok. Culture is also omnipresent, complex, difficult to define and omnipresent. So, through this assignment, we chose the culture of Malaysian Portuguese. There were large resources coming from the Portuguese settlement, Malacca. When on 7 July 2008, the old town of Malacca was inscribed on the World Heritage List together with George Town, the capital of Penang. In April 1511, Alfonso de Albuquerque sailed from Goa to Malacca. This is how the life of the Portuguese began to this day. In Malacca we can discover some unique fishing villages. The residents in the fishing village are not Malay, Chinese, Indian or other ethnicities, but are 100% of Portuguese descent. The Portuguese descendants follow their ancestors who came to Malacca, married the local person and started their life in this land. The fishing village also known as......middle of paper......s Gomez, said culture is passed on from generation to generation. For example, language is passed on from generation to generation. There are three criteria that we must practice, as long as we belong to the ethnicity. One of the criteria is language. As Portuguese, we must be able to speak the language, otherwise you are not Portuguese. Why do we have to have language? If we didn't practice it then you wouldn't belong to that group. So that, nowadays, the residents of the Portuguese settlement speak their native language. In the end, we felt happy to complete this cultural task, because we were given the chance to realize and understand this unique ethnicity. As Malaysians, we should feel proud because we have many races and ethnicities. After this assignment, we believe we have truly gotten to know and understand what Portuguese is in Malacca.
