You know you've become an obsessed fan when you start stalking celebrities everywhere. There is stalking that happens online and offline for fans. It is a common thing for normal fans to follow celebrities on social networking sites. In contrast, sasaeng fans are those that take place offline. They will follow a celebrity to their salon, shows and home. In other words, they will follow them 24/7 if possible. In South Korea, a fan who is obsessed with a celebrity is called a sasaeng fan. Sasaeng fans are specifically fans of K-pop (Korean pop) celebrities. Sasaeng fans are found all over the world, but there are more of them in the countries surrounding South Korea because they are able to travel back and forth in a couple of hours by plane. There is no established definition of "fan sasaeng". However, according to many different sources gathered together, sasaeng fans are defined as extremely obsessive fans who interfere with celebrities' privacy. Even worse, they might physically harm celebrities just to get their attention or reactions. In Korean, "sa" means private and "saeng" means life. Overall sasaeng means private life. The coined term "Hallyu" in English means "Korean wave" and literally means "flow of Korea". The Hallyu wave began in the late 1990s with the boom in Korean dramas. People in different countries began to idolize actors and actresses in these popular dramas. K-pop has also become a sensation for music fans.
