Charter schools are an alternative to public schools. The question is whether this alternative is a better solution for public schools. Public schools can be just as creative as charter schools. Public schools are funded with our taxpayers' money, and ultimately the US government decides where those funds go. Education should be the last thing to be cut in the budget, but unfortunately we citizens have no choice but public offices that we hope will do what they said in their campaign speeches. Charter schools were created to fill the gap that public schools cannot fill. They can tailor their curriculum to suit students' needs, which some public schools cannot do due to funding cuts. The programs are innovative, creative and feature positive academic rewards and fascinating educational excursions. Successful charter schools meet quality standards and create an optimal learning environment for all children. “Directly related to Charter's success is the academic success of children. Since 2000, there have been many successful “second generation” charter schools. The first Charter Schools struggled, but in retrospect without this 'learning curve' Charter Schools could not be so successful today” (Charter School Facts, 2011).
