Did American foreign policy and influence lead to the Iranian revolution and trigger the Iranian hostage crisis? Part AThis investigation determines the extent to which American foreign policy has, over the years 1953-1982, caused the siege of the Iranian embassy. Furthermore, it calls into question the role that the Carter and Kennedy administrations had in advancing the American agenda in Iran. In order to evaluate the role played by American influence, this investigation evaluates the relationship between the Carter administration and Mohammed Raza Pahlevi during his tenure as Shah. Carter's Middle Eastern foreign policy is examined to gain further insight into the influence the United States had on Pahlevi. Furthermore, the role that President Carter's televised speech played in triggering the Iranian revolution is also considered. The events that sparked the Iranian revolution and the subsequent coup that ousted the Shah from power are also taken into consideration.
