Ancient Greece put so much effort into their art, history, wars, mythology, people and society to bring success to their civilization. The United States bases several parts of its civilization on the teachings and experiences of Greek civilization. Greek civilization is important to the United States for many reasons, including its influence on astronomy, mathematics and physics, Homer's epics, and the Persian War. Astronomy, mathematics and physics are important to the United States because they gave rise to the information that other civilizations can build starting today. Many influences on these topics were created by Aristarchus, Eratosthenes, Euclid and Archimedes. Aristarchus was an astronomer who calculated that the sun was 300 times larger than the Earth.
