Topic > The Arab-Israeli conflict and its effects on the Arabs...

The Arab-Israeli conflict is one of the greatest global dilemmas in modern history. Many political leaders believe this is the most complicated conflict in the world, even bigger than the Cold War. During the 1960s and 1970s, the Arab world decided to proceed to confrontation and fight fire with fire. The Middle East became a war zone where all the Arab countries lined up to reconquer Palestine. However, the Israeli government was smart enough to maintain its presence on Palestinian land. The Arab-Israeli conflict had a huge impact on Arab countries, some larger than others, but all Arab countries were affected, even if not all Arab countries were directly involved in the conflict. The conflict has had some impact on each Arab country; however, they were all negatively impacted. Whether it is a defeat in a war, as happened with Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Jordan; or face huge numbers of Palestinian refugees, as happened with Lebanon; or be psychologically affected by the loss of Palestine, as happened in Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. The Arab-Israeli War began in late 1926, when Britain and its allies succeeded in defeating the Ottoman Empire in the First World War. took control over many parts of the Ottoman Empire, including Palestine. After promising the Arabs a national state, where all Arabs could unite and live together, they withdrew their promises by offering the Jewish people a homeland in Palestine, the Holy Land. This was announced in the Balfour Declaration of November 1917 by the British Empire. The statement was written by UK Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour. The statement was directed at the Zionists... halfway through the paper... to see it as an independent state. Works Cited "Algeria - Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs".
