Giants in the Land1) For Hansa he is the man best suited to be a pioneer. He is hard working, honest, thoughtful, thoughtful and many other things that help him get ahead in life on the prairie. Just by the way he does everything with such joy, you can see that his body was programmed to live in the Great Plains. He enjoys doing his chores and daily work on the farm because he knows that this will allow him to prosper further in life. He treats his children and wife with respect and uses harshness and severity only after exhausting all other options. He is thoughtful in the sense that while his peers only think about what is happening at that moment in their lives, he always thinks about the big picture and tries to prepare for what comes next. This allows it to stay one step ahead of its neighbors in everything it does. An example of this is how he buys furs from the Indians and sends them back to Minnesota to sell at a high profit, while his neighbors sit back and wait for the planting season to begin. All this helps him become a very prosperous farmer. 2) Beret Hansa is the character who changes the most in the book. At the beginning of the novel, she appears to be as happy as Per Hansa, her husband, to be moving west into the Great Unknown. After they get there, however, she becomes very upset. He begins to hate everything about the prairie and sees evil in everything, including his son. She begins to see her dead mother in the hallucinations she has and in these hallucinations she tells her mother all the evil that surrounds her. His relationship with Per Hansa becomes cold and with his children he begins to punish them more severely. She became......middle of paper......st.9) I absolutely loved the setting of this book. I love reading historical fiction about America and especially the plains. As I said before, Centennial is one of my favorite books of all time because it was able to capture all of Colorado beautifully and beautifully in the pages of one book, which I thought Giants in the Earth also did well. The plains of America are in my mind some of the most interesting places in the world, especially in pioneer times, so I love reading anything about them, assuming it's historical fiction. I couldn't have been happier with the setting of this story. Works cited by Dickens, Charles, Hablot Knight Browne and Frederick Barnard. A tale of two cities. New York: Dodd, Mead, 1942.
