The lowest age of students studying abroad With the development of China's economy, the tendency of students to study abroad increases every year. According to a report by the Institute of International Education, in 2010, 229,300 Chinese students chose to study abroad. This data means that the people who went to study abroad exceeded 30% compared to the previous year. (Lin 1) A statistic shows that Chinese spend CNY 10 billion, which is equivalent to about $1.5 billion, to study abroad every year. What intrigues people is that students studying as high school students or college students occupied a huge portion. This phenomenon is totally different than ten years ago. Before that, most students who studied abroad earned a bachelor's degree, PhD, or higher degree. Few students had attended high school or university abroad. In recent years, the trend towards a younger age for studying abroad is increasingly popular. Especially in Beijing and Shanghai, parents want their children to study abroad as soon as possible. The competitive environment in China, people's economic conditions, parents' new thoughts and more convenient information are the main causes of lowering the age of Chinese students studying abroad. The first reason we take into consideration is the more acute competitive environment in China. In recent years, kindergarten children have been asked to learn English, play an instrument and study Olympic mathematics, because if they don't study hard, they will lose the chance to compete with other children. The long-term result is that children are exhausted and parents doubt Chinese education.
