Topic > Social Structure of the Middle Class - 1540

There are three main social structures in our society today. There is the upper class, the rich and wealthy, who have an infinite amount of money to feel comfortable and survive. We have the middle class, the normal people, who work every day to keep their families together and have a job under their roof. Finally, we have the lower class, who have a hard time surviving, but the government doesn't want people to live in the United States, so they help this class more. They receive financial aid, cash aid, food stamps and health aid. So, for college, it's usually easier for the lower class to go because they receive cash aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (FASFA) Furthermore, the upper classes, have no problem sending their children to college because they have the money to send them without taking loans because they are comfortable. However, the middle class is the sandwich. They are not comfortable paying the price of their children's education and do not receive money from the government unless it is loans. As a high school student, you can only think of your dream college, the one that would lead to the perfect job and the perfect life. Would it be Duke, UCLA or even Harvard? From their children's education to college applications to the acceptance letters that arrive in the mail, parents are always thinking about how they will pay for their child's education. The U.S. government passed the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 which allows unfortunate and wealthy students to attend school through high school for free. However, as you progress through your education, it starts to get expensive. A child attending a prestigious college like Duke or UCLA has to pay around $40,000... middle of paper... and the potential to become great doctors, lawyers, businessmen or even musicians/artists, but since they don't have the funds available to receive adequate education in these fields, they are unable to pursue their dream careers. The biggest consequence facing the middle class is that they have lost future potential because there isn't enough money for some of these people to get the education they deserve to do great things. There are still doctors and lawyers here in the world trying to pay off their debts fifteen years or more after graduation, even though they have their high-end jobs. While sitting in the bank, I overheard a 92-year-old man say “I have no more loans now” as he wrote his last check at the bank. This shows how loans are evil. Honestly, the best alternative to a financial aid plan would be to get injured on a college campus.
