Warren East, ARM HoldingsBiographyMr. Warren East was CEO of ARM Holdings PLC from 2001 to 2013. He joined the company in 1994 as general manager of the design consultancy business unit. Before becoming CEO of the company, he became vice president of corporate operations for three years. Before joining the ARM team, he was involved in Texas Instruments, where he served for 11 years from 1983 to 1994. There, he worked on applications and chip designs for microcontrollers, local area networks, and analog telephone devices. He also contributed greatly to the company's growth, where he was involved in the design of low-power dialer chips and low-system-cost integrated analog voice circuits for telephones. He also engaged in PC modem design and LAN adapter system designs. He was subsequently responsible for the commercialization of IT semiconductor devices that can be programmed after production in Europe (www.arm.com). Warren East is currently a member of the board of directors of De La Rue PLC, Inc. He is also a non-executive director of Dyson and Micron Technology Inc and a senior independent director and chairman of the audit committee of De La Rue plc. After graduating, Mr Warren became involved with Data Type Limited, where he was involved in the design and manufacturing of terminals as a design engineer. Worked on oscillator subsystems for VDUs, RF emissions measurements, and scientific compliance. He holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, as well as an MBA and an honorary doctorate from Cranfield University. When he was CEO of ARM, he had responsibility for directing and supervising staff. He was therefore good at communicating with management who were above his level and with executives as equals. He was therefore believed to have a high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to read people easily. East was also an effective team player. He was able to work with different individuals who had different personalities. He also encouraged opportunities in a particular organization so that it could function effectively. He had the ability to create the big picture as well as being able to bring his team together to tackle change efficiently and effectively.
