The two met while he was stationed in England during the war. The couple remained together until shortly before Eric was born. Then, Edward returned to Canada to be with his real family, including his wife who he had left behind. This made it extremely difficult for Patricia to care for Eric considering she was a teen mom. His parents stepped up and raised Eric as if he were their own son. A family of musicians raised Eric. His grandmother had a deep love for playing the piano. Patricia says her father was a gifted musician and played the piano very well. The people around him instilled a love of music in Eric during his childhood. For one of his birthdays he asked for a guitar. His love for the guitar led him to give up formal education (college). He loved rock and blues music and that was his goal when he started playing. During his musical career, Eric joined a band called the Yardbirds. He began recording his first albums and soon discovered that his love for music was actually the Blues. Eric gave up the title of expert guitarist. However, he will play some pieces when given to him
