In conclusion, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight belongs to the romance literary genre. It tells the story of a single knight on a mission, where he encounters beautiful ladies and challenges to maintain the balance between love and chivalry, which characterizes courtly love. In fact, the presence of courtly love varies from love for a lady, to love for a religious image, to love for a knight.
