Over time, there has been a great deal of controversy over whether college athletes should be paid as if they were professionals. College athletes are trying to go pro, so they aren't pro and shouldn't be paid because they haven't made it to the big leagues yet. It's called college athletics because they're still students. Since they are students, they shouldn't be paid to play. College athletes should not be paid to play during college. Their dream college offers them an all-expenses paid scholarship for the sport they love to play. They shouldn't be paid more because everything about school is already paid for. Many student-athletes earn a full scholarship to the college of their choice. They get free trips and free gear. They get free coaching and tutoring. They get academic support. They use university as a platform to improve their professional career options. (thecollegelanur.com) Colleges are already paying enough money to build facilities, pay coaches, give scholarships and pay athletic advisors. (BDL Sports) Sport must be fun, but also competitive. Some may be large and full of students, while other colleges may be small and have a limited number of students. Larger schools may have an advantage over small schools. Bigger schools will be more competitive and get more money for better players. Unlike... half the paper... non-professionals. That said, they shouldn't be paid to play. College serves an educational purpose and should not be exploited for pay. The evidence that has been shown is overwhelming. “We want to make sure they get a college degree and really have the education that prepares them for life,” Emmert said. "That's the game changer here. Not the 3-4% that make it to the NBA." (www.nbcnews.com) Works quoted Admin in Money, NCAA Football. “Should college athletes get paid?
