Which three jobs interest me? I'm personally interested in becoming a radiologist, obviously, but I'm also intrigued by being an anesthesiologist or physician assistant. During this mini research project I will discuss general core requirements and just general aspects of the job itself. For example, the salary for each profession and the expected job prospects. The medical field is quite broad in its choice of job careers, even within the same job you can have many different titles while doing the same thing. One of the careers I had chosen was to be a radiologist. Radiologists are doctors who use cutting-edge imaging technologies to examine organs and tissues inside the body in a gentle, non-invasive way. Their expertise in physics, anatomy and disease process allows them to diagnose injuries and diseases so that treatment can begin. A growing subset of these specialists called interventional radiologists perform surgical procedures under imaging guidance to minimize damage to healthy tissue. Becoming a radiologist is not an easy path to take, there are many steps to becoming one. For example, there are training requirements and then radiology training. There are also some necessary skills and qualities that a radiologist must have. The first step to becoming a radiologist is obtaining a bachelor's degree. Bachelor of Medicine students can study any subject, but must still meet prerequisites in several subjects. Students can strengthen their medical school application by earning academic recognition, volunteering, conducting scientific research, and achieving high scores on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Many four-year universities have advisors to help students along the way, like ETSU. ...... middle of paper ...... physicians, anesthesiologists must complete the following: pass the USMLE, obtain a state medical license, obtain certification in Anesthesiology, and maintain a clean criminal record. With all these requirements it pays off in the end. The average income for anesthesiologists is $427,956. For those who specialize in pain management, the average income is $529,347. The outlook for anesthesiologists is good. With the expansion of labor demand, many jobs will be available in the near future. Ultimately, I was interested in becoming a physician assistant. A physician assistant (PA) is a medical professional who works as part of a team with a doctor. Health aides perform physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret laboratory tests, perform procedures, assist with surgeries, provide patient education and counseling, and make rounds in hospitals and nursing homes.
