Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Marilyn Monroe, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are some of the most idolized celebrities in today's society. People love celebrities, not for any good morals they may possess, but for their fame. We canonize celebrities despite the fact that their music encourages drug and alcohol use, abuse of women, and dressing shabbily. There are many luminaries, deceased or living, who are good role models who often get overlooked because they don't top the charts. When you look at who most teenagers idolize, you should understand how much influence they have on their fans. Many popular songs affect people negatively. Rap songs are normally derogatory towards women or encourage sexual abuse against them. "Suck It or Not" by Lil Wayne is an example of a popular rap song that degrades women. The closer you look at song lyrics, the more you realize how humiliating they are. Another popular song, "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke is another song that has derogatory lyrics and many people don't realize it. In many songs some artists glorify the use of drugs and alcohol basically saying that it's okay to use them because they won't harm you in any way. Celebrities who do this should not be used as role models because it sets a horrible example for teenagers and could lead them to use illegal substances. CouponCodes4u.com recently conducted a survey asking parents who they thought were the worst celebrity role models and why. Over 2,000 parents were asked and 58% of them said that celebrities do not make good role models. Miley Cyrus, Lindsey Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Ke$ha, the Kardashians, Hedi Montag and Taylor Momsen are the parents who vote... in the middle of paper... and they do it because, once again, it will influence their fans , most likely in a negative way. Regardless of who you are a fan of, you have to be careful not to be influenced by what your idol does. Some celebrities can be admired and many cannot be admired because of their actions. Overall, we should focus less on celebrity idolization and more on those who make a difference in the lives of others such as firefighters, nurses, teachers, parents and doctors. If you're going to idolize a celebrity, canonize someone like Audrey Hepburn because she went through a lot of horrible things in her life and still made a difference in the lives of many others. She traveled across Africa helping those who were starving and was an ambassador for UNICEF. Overall, most celebrities are not a good influence on people, so we should try our best not to worship them like we do now.
