Topic > The power of education in John Roweson's novel, Regrity '

According to the author of "Traits of Women", "By education and companionship, like class by the potter's hand, they are shaped into pleasant or disgusting way" (1). So women are like clay. They are shaped and reshaped based on what they have learned or the people they interact with. The following quote, "The character of women, more if possible than that of men, is formed by their education and the company they keep" (Traits of Women 1), reinforces the ideology of the previous quote. This quote seems to imply that women are mentally weak. The author believes that women should have the right to reason about things, however, society does not allow this to happen. For the most part, people can think about common problems. In “On the Education of Young Women,” the author believes that it is okay to let women use reason. According to the article, “…young women should be encouraged to think about their feelings…If young women thought a little more about their likes and dislikes, we would see fewer romances and more marriages of inclination ". " (anonymous 1). The first part of this quote is an oxymoron because it makes it seem like men want women to think about things, however reality says otherwise. As for the last part of the quote, the writer doesn't know thought at all.Why does the author blame women for society's expectations of men Why?
