Evaluation of euthanasia How much do you trust your doctor? Do you trust them enough to put your life's faith in their hands? The focus of this evaluation is euthanasia, or also known as physician-assisted suicide. Doctor-assisted suicide is the practice of ending a terminally ill person who has requested this option. Should euthanasia be legalized? Nowadays, the practice of euthanasia is becoming more widely accepted around the world, yet it continues to be a topic of enormous controversy. Euthanasia basically gives a person the right to end their life by allowing someone else (in this case the doctor). An article by Dr. Paul J. van der Maas entitled “Evaluation of the notification procedure for physician-assisted dying in the Netherlands” covers this topic in more depth. Maas is in favor of physician-assisted suicide. He sees no harm or injustice in cases related to physician-assisted suicide. Maas's article on physician-assisted suicide proves to be highly effective through the use of ethos, logos, and pathos. Ethos is used in the article which makes Maas' arguments stronger and valid. Maas has a PhD and an MD, so he establishes his credibility through this. Not only that, but Maas, along with many other doctors, conducted experiments and surveys to see how many doctors actually practiced assisted suicide. This shows that it is not just a doctor who endorses this option or has this belief; there are many others. This also makes his case stronger and provides evidence. It also has many important resources and contacts such as the Research Institute in Extramural Medicine and the Department of General Medicine, Nursing...... middle of paper... and “terminally ill”. in this way readers feel pity and empathy. Maas appeals to readers emotionally, which makes his argument more effective. Maas is in favor of physician-assisted suicide. According to him there is no harm in allowing the legalization of euthanasia. He makes strong arguments as to why. His article is clear, concise and flows smoothly. It is easy for readers to understand. Maas provides detailed documentation on the research conducted by him and his colleagues. He's a doctor and knows what he's talking about. With the help of ethos, logos, and pathos, Maas provides a strong argument as to why he is in favor of medical care suicide.
