A series of contemporary dance actions performed by the two talented young dancers have successfully made Michael's piece famous throughout the world, now considered an effective example of dance contemporary. The stretching of Kayla's entire body by Kapono's hands demonstrates sharp, precise movements normally seen in this style of dance. This action sequence begins at 1:54 minutes and ends at approximately 2:02 minutes. The dancers are seen standing in the center of the stage, facing the center of the audience diagonally right. The Kupono dancer is in a diagonal position behind the dancer Kayla, hidden from the audience's view, almost shadowing her while his left hand is placed on her left shoulder. This ignites a feeling of unease from the public as its dominant characteristics are already starting to be exposed to the public. Kapono's character has power and control over Kayla's character in this segment. His right hand quickly approaches his mouth, as this action is in motion he begins to emerge from the darkness and into the audience's sight, leaving the audience with an uneasy feeling. Both of Kayla's hands grab his hand and cover her mouth with it; in hopes of discarding his hand. This specific moment of the dance conveys a great deal of symbolism, connecting the actions to the overall universal theme. The hand over the mouth symbolizes the constant addiction that Kayla's character struggles with, it shows it as drugs; trying to inebriate her. This is then followed by his left hand running down her side in a pressing motion, causing her to react by fiercely pushing his hand away, leading to an aggressive movement from the dancer as his hand grips her left hip. As opposed to this; she tirelessly removes his hand. While Kayla unostentatiously weakens, Kupono grows stronger.
