Fiction is considered an art of creation. Just as God created the world, the writer also presents a new world of imagination, where things are more understandable and beautiful than they normally are. The writer creates a new universe through his works. He is influenced by the conditions of the era in which he works and creates. In the words of David Daiches “it is undoubtedly largely true that an age is reflected in its literature which reveals the tides of thought, the vagaries of emotions, the wellsprings of actions which animated men and women” (Dhull 1).Indian writers in English constitute a significant group. Widely acclaimed as a talented writer and winner of several awards, Chetan Bhagat has also carved a place for himself among Indian writers. Gifted with deep psychological insight and capable of writing an intense work in prose, Bhagat seems to have sensed the interest of young India and wants it to be communicated to his readers. In this article, the gestures of post-coloniality in Chetan Bhagat's novel One Night @ The Call Center has been discussed, where post-colonial aspects are exhibited in various forms and with different implications. In recent years, postcoloniality has emerged as a site of creative engagement with the identity crisis of the oppressed/subordinate self. It has been used as a generic term, under which an imperialist, hegemonic attitude and an oppressed and colonized society exist. The writers of this postcolonial narrative have been engaged in this context by describing both Indian culture and the hybridization of native culture due to Western impacts such as dress, ideology, and cultural activities. Jahan Ramazani defines it as: “Postcolonialism deals with what has… middle of paper… Dhull, Anar Singh. “Social Consciousness in the Novels of RK Narayan with Special Reference to The Guide and Swami and Friends.” Diss.MDURohtak,1991.Print.Jadhav,Arvind. “Representing Metropolitan Youth Culture: An Evaluation of Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone and a Night at the Call Center.” The Criterion: An InternationalJournal In English.June,2012.Vol.3:2.pp.1-5.Web.Rao, P.Mallikarjuna, Rajeshwar Mittapalli and K.Damodar Rao eds.
