Similarities between the Nazis and the party of 1984 The government of Nazi Germany closely resembled the party, the government of 1984. Both operated in a similar way and had objectives similar. Whatever governments did was an action to maintain power. Both the Nazis and the Party maintained similar ideologies, controlled the mass media, educated children in their beliefs, had a secret police force, and had forced labor camps. Both governments used each of these methods to maintain power and control over the people. The Nazis and the Party had very similar ideologies. Although the Nazis eliminated people because of their religion (Sauer 683) and the Party eliminated people because of their anti-Party feelings (Orwell 187), they both sought to eliminate anyone who disagreed with them. This practice was essential to control the masses and maintain power. Maintaining power is much easier for a government when the entire governed population agrees with its philosophy. No one would attempt to remove the current government from power if they agreed with that government. Control of the media was another very effective means of controlling a population. The Nazis established a propaganda ministry on March 13, 1933 (Sauer 678). This office controlled all media, such as books, newspapers and films ("History of the Modern World: Nazi Germany"). The Ministry of Truth was an essential factor in perpetuating the Party's beliefs and did the same as the Nazi propaganda ministry (Orwell 39). By controlling all mass media, both governments more easily controlled people's ideas.
