In the article “Being an Atheist,” HJ McCloskey attempts to inform his readers that belief in atheism is a “much more comfortable belief” by effectively using a disdainful rhetorical term in towards theists and their faith. McCloskey delves into both cosmological and teleological arguments, within which he criticizes the arguments and to further his argument against theism, he also presents the problem of evil and why evil cannot exist with a perfect God who is the creator of the universe. What will be exposed in this essay are the counterarguments to McCloskey's criticisms and the attempt to discredit his claims regarding the “comfortable” position found within atheism and its arguments. HJ McCloskey uses the word “evidence” in his article in an exceptionally loose manner in an attempt to undermine the Christian argument and thought process. Unfortunately for his case, the universe is a vast unknown area made of time and space that hides many mysteries and unknown causes and effects that also have no proof. With an entire infinite cosmos of creations and beings, it can become difficult to try to explain the science behind every existence and every order. However, it can be explained through theories in the same way that a magnetic field or a black hole can be explained. Science can theorize these two answers to some of science's biggest questions and allow people to have an answer to how a compass works with the Earth's magnetic field. The “Best Approach to Explanations,” explained in our presentation of Lesson 18, provides an explanation for all creation in the universe. In theory, God is the best explanation of the existence of the world. Beyond the "proof" of God's existence, McClos...halfway through the doc...had a purpose and everything they did to improve the lives of others was a great act of goodwill. These three reasons for being a theist are warm and comfortable because they are not without purpose. “On Being an Atheist” is McCloskey's means of making his readers feel safe from their ignorance by using a tone antagonistic to his article and its logic. Belittling theism allows other atheists to feel like hypocrites with a sense of false confidence. He is quick to convey theism as a false belief with many flaws and flaws, but no other form of belief or valid argument is offered. The cumulative case brought to attention in this essay alludes to the fact that the best explanation for the existence of the universe is that of an omnipotent and perfect being. Without the purpose of living and progressing, it would be impossible to experience comfort and warmth.
