Do you know what it takes to reach your full potential? Reaching your full potential means to me working hard, being a leader and being a better person. This is the action from which I learned many values that I experienced through high school football. I use these values today and use them in everything I do. When I was in 11th grade, our school wasn't known for winning soccer games. In the last eight years we had not made the playoffs, nor had we had a winning season. My old football coach had retired and we ended up getting a new coach. The next coach at my high school at Northgate was TJ Wiley. The first day he introduced himself to us he wrote four letters on the RYFP board. We were all confused as to what it was. Then he asked us “what do you think these letters mean?” we all guessed random things and then he told us. “Reach your full potential,” he then asked us again. “What do you think it means to reach your potential?” Most of us say do something you're good at. He said it's when you do everything you can to succeed in every way possible. You basically give one hundred percent in everything you do. He said it meant standing in front of the class, doing good things in your community and doing the little things well. From that point on I lived the RYFP life. That's when I learned to work really hard and have that drive to get better. That season we went to the playoffs for the first time in eight years, but lost in the first round. Even though we lost, we all knew that next year would be one hundred percent better. It was all thanks to our coach who brought a new belief that we could believe in ourselves. This is followed in my older self that you already are and that there is always room to improve any aspect of your life. It also made me a better person at my job. I work at Dick's Sporting Goods. I was hired in August and they saw how much hard work and effort I put into everything, they promoted me. Now I'm a manager and I even got a raise. I feel like I've come a long way as a person and that's something I'm very proud of. The value I experienced through "reaching your full potential" led me to work harder, be a leader, and be a better person. This is the action from which I learned many values that I experienced through high school football. I use these values today and use them in everything I do. I will continue in my life to live the same way until I die because I feel it is the best way to be successful. What reaching your full potential means to you??
