He didn't really believe in creating an equal society. In another speech Lincoln again reveals his views on the issue of creating an equal society. Lincoln states that he absolutely does not favor any political or civil rights for African Americans, which would threaten the position of the white male in society. Lincoln states: “I am not nor have I ever been in favor of making electors or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold public office, nor to intermarry with white persons… while we remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as every other man I am in favor of the superior position being given to the white race." While Lincoln clearly – as I stated earlier, believes that African Americans are capable of contributing and have contributed to American society, he doesn't seem too interested in changing the way the system works and is interested as a white male – in being the one in a superior
