Lincoln states that he absolutely does not favor any political or civil rights for African Americans, which would threaten the position of the white male in society. Lincoln states: “I am not nor have I ever been in favor of making electors or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold public office, nor to intermarry with white persons… while we remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as every other man I am in favor of the superior position being given to the white race."
