A software developer is a computer programmer who designs and creates software for all different types of computers. Some programs made by software developers are programs that tell a computer what to do or how to actually operate the computer. (USNews) Almost everything on your smartphone or computer was designed by a software developer. Software developers have at least some aspect of your life. Some of the largest software companies include Google, Apple, and Microsoft. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects job growth of 22.8% for software developers between 2012 and 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. (US News). According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average pay for a software developer is approximately $44.88 dollars per hour and $98,350 per year. There are many software developer positions and according to the Bureau there is a very low unemployment rate of 2.8%. Most companies are looking for developers with at least a bachelor's degree in computer science from a college or university. Software developers must also have extensive knowledge of computer languages ​​such as C++ and Java Script. For some higher positions, an employer will sometimes look for a master's degree. Developers must also be able to keep up with new technologies and new tools made available to them. Most developers learn through internships at my software companies, and most will start as computer programmers, just writing code. Software developers also need to have a background appropriate to the type of company they work for, to understand the IT needs of that industry. 63% of software developers believe that a talented software developer has more power to change society than a talented public speaker.
