Topic > Rising Oil and Gasoline Prices - 1025

We Americans have witnessed continuous increases in oil and gasoline prices over the past few decades. Each year is slightly higher than the previous one. However, we have seen some cases where oil and gasoline prices have risen rapidly enough to call upon the American public to stop or cut spending. The first time in recent history was after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Then, in July 2008, we saw a huge jump to the current national average record of $4.50 per gallon of gasoline. Oil at the time was above $115 a barrel for light crude, which is the oil Americans use in their gasoline. Currently, oil and gasoline prices in the United States continue to rise.
