The book I read was Charlotte's Web. The author of the book is EB White; author of many best-selling books. It is a fictional book of 192 pages. It's a fun and interesting book. The book begins with a little girl named Fern Arable sitting at the breakfast table. He lives on a farm with many animals. He sees his father come out into the barn a little earlier than usual with an axe. Fern then discovers that piglets have been born, but is confused as to why her father has an ax with him. Fern's mom tells her that one of the pigs is a "swift" and needs to be put down. Hearing that news causes Fern to run out of the house breathless as she snatches the ax from her father's hands. Fern asks why he has to kill the pig. Her father tells her that he is a bastard and is smaller than all the other pigs. Fern then asks, "If I were too small, would you kill me?" Her father tells her that a pig and a human are two different things. Fern says she doesn't see any difference. Fern's father gives up and says he will take the pig. Fern named the pig Wilbur. With Wilbur now saved from slaughter, Fern raised the pig as her own. He fed the pig, cleaned it, and took care of every necessity the pig needed. As time went on, Wilbur was getting older and eventually too old to live with Fern. John Arable, Fern's father, says the pig can live with his uncle; Homer Zuckermann. Fern's uncle lived on the same street, so she could visit Wilbur whenever she wanted. Since Fern is in school, she doesn't have much time to visit Wilbur. This ends up causing Wilbur to become depressed. He stops eating and ends up being forced to take drugs. There were many animals on the farm, including a moth... middle of paper... the life of a prostitute. In my opinion the book was very interesting. I like how it shows how far a friend would go to save another friend. It shows how close a relationship can be with just two people. I liked how when Charlotte said she would be friends with Wilbur, she also meant that as a friend I would do anything for your benefit. I also like the fact that it's a page turner, meaning you want to know what happens next. You also learned words used with animals that you don't usually use. It was a very emotional story that I think almost everyone would have enjoyed. You learn a lot about science when it comes to animal life. Wilbur asked a lot of questions on the web and she defined some of the words he said. I love Charlotte's face where she was selfless and gave the last moments of her life to the pig. I would recommend this book to people of all ages.
