Man-God RelationshipSumerian, Jewish and Greek CulturesThe Sumerians emerged between approximately 3000 and 2500 BC in a region known as the "Fertile Crescent" located between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers and they were considered by most historians to be the first civilization in the world. During this period, a form of writing called cuneiform became established. It was from this form of writing that we discovered a great epic known as Gilgamesh and became enlightened about the Man-God relationship of Sumerian culture. Likewise, Judaic culture emerged in the same region. A man named Abraham, a Sumerian, was believed to have come from the city of Ur. Abraham is known today as the father of three religions: Judaic, Islamic and Christian. During the period from 1000 to 300 BC we see the emergence of another great book of stories known as the Bible: The Old Testament. This collection of works tells us the history of the Jewish people. During the late 8th century BC the Greek alphabet was formed and two great epic poems known as the Iliad and the Odyssey emerged. Today there is some controversy about the author, Homer, and whether or not he existed, but regardless of the author, we are introduced to Greek culture by these two great literary works.
