Over generations people are taught to think before acting because actions have a greater impact than words. It's a phrase he alludes to constantly, in life and in literature. The problem is often that people think too much and do nothing. Incidentally, in Shakespeare's play “Hamlet” the namesake of the play is exactly this type of person. Hamlet's main goal in the play is to avenge his father's death by killing the murderer Claudius; this task is entrusted to him by the ghost of his father who found him "suitable" (iv38) to carry it out. Yet Hamlet spends most of the play doing nothing: he appears to be an incompetent character for such a daunting task. Going completely against the ghost's belief, because throughout the play Hamlet continually does not do what he is supposed to. It is at the beginning of the play that Hamlet learns that what his father's ghost told him was true, he was in fact murdered. And even when he has this information and the means to kill Claudius the murderer, Hamlet still does nothing. Primarily through the exposition of the play, Hamlet worries about little else other than how to make the plan perfect, but he executes none of it. He stammers continuously and does nothing to support his claims. Also demonstrating that they are not capable of doing the job. Hamlet is constantly given opportunities to kill Claudius, especially after learning that what the ghost told him was true, the biggest moment being when Claudius was in the confessional. This would have been an opportune time to kill him, yet Hamlet convinces himself by saying that it is too merciful to kill Claudius like that and that it would be "hire and pay, not revenge" (iii.iii.84) and that his father the murderer should be more sinful when he dies. T...... middle of the card...... marriage while also revealing that Hamlet cared even more for his mother. Thus making the audience question the veracity of his claims of being able to kill Claudius in the beginning, because this is a moment where he doesn't show hesitation like he once did. Calling to wonder if he would actually avenge his father or if the last scene was more about avenging his mother. The ghost needed to be avenged with the death of his murder, but one cannot really be sure if this will let his soul rest when the murder was not committed for him. In conclusion, multiple insistences in the play push the belief that Hamlet is neither fit nor ready for the tasks entrusted to him. He has an extremely weak will and his biggest flaw is that he thinks too much about things, together this creates an unstable character, to go against the old king Hamlet his son was not ready to accept such a request and should have chosen another.
