Topic > The Future of the Internet - 1485

In today's world 3 billion human beings are on the Internet but there are also 4 billion people who don't. As I began my study of the future of the Internet, I asked myself this question: Is it possible for everyone to be online and connected globally? So I asked myself: how, if everyone is online, will the future of the internet change the experience of daily life? Looking back, the Internet is still a relatively new phenomenon as it was first created in the 1960s by a computer scientist named JCR Licklider. He envisioned a computer network, called a galactic network, that would allow humans to share information instantaneously. Over time this is how the Internet developed, as many of these networks sharing all kinds of data started popping up all over the world. In 1995, fifteen million people were connected, in 2000, three hundred and fifty people were connected, in 2005, over 1 billion were connected, and right now there are more than 3 billion people connected to the Internet! The growth of the Internet has not only been quantitative, it has gone from being disorganized and asocial to being active, alerting us to things of interest, massively social, connecting us with the world and is full of search engines that can help us reach information of the our personal choice. Social networks that connect us to worldly knowledge are also quite new. For example, Facebook was introduced in 2005 and Twitter in 2006. I can't imagine what life would be like without these communications networks and to think that they didn't exist just less than ten years ago seems ancient to me. Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube, Wikipedia are platforms that allow us to build social communities and... middle of paper... location will soon be made possible by Google Loon. A project launched to connect the entire globe and offer everyone, wherever they are, an affordable Internet service to access all the world's information. The advancements of the Internet through speed, intelligence and connection will bring a blanket of unlimited knowledge, wisdom and understanding to all people everywhere.
