Topic > The Importance of Freedom in the 1950s - 1430s
These fears turned out to be something Americans had to face but couldn't do everything on their own. As a result, the American definition of freedom expanded to exhibit the same concepts of positive freedom seen in the 1930s and 1940s. Throughout the Cold War Americans asked the government to “protect those liberties through the preservation of domestic order, the provision of national defense, and the administration of justice” (Foner 789). As a result, the positive freedoms from the Depression that provided security against the domestic issues that filled the 1930s were expanded to cover domestic and international concerns during the aftermath.
