. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the British Society of Pediatric Dentistry with the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) have created guidelines that outline different types of trauma along with their methods of diagnosis and treatment. Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) occur most frequently in preschool and school-aged children and young adults. 25% of all school-age children suffer dental trauma. The most common TDI in the primary dentition is dislocation (Dent Traumatol 2012;28:2-12). The following guidelines for the management of traumatic dental injuries in primary teeth were obtained using the AAPD and IADT. Traumatic dental injuries include: Fractures of the teeth and alveolar bone Fracture Definition: Incomplete fracture of the enamel without loss of tooth structure Diagnosis: No radiographic abnormalities. X-rays are recommended, especially if other signs or symptoms are present. Treatment: etching and sealing with resin; Smooth sharp edgesFollow up: Usually noneEnamel fractureDefinition: Complete enamel fracture with no visible signs of exposed dentinDiagnosis: Clinical: Enamel loss is visiblePercussion: PainlessMobility: NormalSensitivity: UnreliableRadiographic findings: Visible enamel lossRecommended radiography: PA, occlusal and eccentric exposures to root fractures r/o dislocation injuries. Treatment: Smooth sharp edges. If the patient has a lip or cheek injury, it is advisable to look for tooth fragments or foreign materials. Follow up: None Crown fracture - uncomplicated Definition: Enamel-dentin fracture without pulp exposure. Diagnosis: Clinical: visible loss of enamel and dentin Percussion: not tenderMobility: n...... half of paper...... 34 (6): 230-238DiAngelis AJ, Andreasen JO, Ebeleseder KA et al.
